Summer Exhibitions : Opening Reception

Jul 02, 2026
5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Join us at Momentum Gallery on Thursday, July 2nd from 5-8pm for the opening of three new summer exhibitions, up through August 29th, 2026.

First Impressions- New Artist Showcase introduces a dynamic group of accomplished artists whose work is being shown at Momentum Gallery for the first time. Spanning ceramics, glass, steel, embroidery, photography, painting, and mixed media, the exhibition brings together distinct practices united by an exceptional sensitivity to material, process, and meaning. Featured artists include Steven Young Lee, Norwood Viviano, Carol Shinn, Sharon Berebichez, Heather Beardsley, Arthur Hall, and Russ Connell, each contributing a singular visual language shaped through years of sustained studio practice.

A group exhibition titled What We Carry: Meaning, Memory, and the Human Experience brings together seven contemporary artists whose work explores the emotional and conceptual forces that shape human life. Through photography, painting, sculpture, glass, and mixed media, the exhibition examines themes of love, memory, environmental responsibility, identity, and transition. Each artist approaches these subjects through a distinct visual language, yet all engage a shared question: how do we process experience and give form to what we carry within us? Together, the works invite viewers to reflect on the ways personal histories intersect with broader cultural and environmental narratives.

Finally, Asheville’s own Steve Snell presents a compelling new series of paintings that capture the spirit, presence, and individuality of animals encountered throughout the American wilderness. Rendered in vivid, expressive color, these contemporary portraits focus on the subtle intelligence and emotional resonance conveyed through each subject’s gaze, posture, and physical presence. Drawing typically from direct experiences with native species in their natural environments, the artist creates works that feel both deeply personal and universally engaging.

Light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome. This event is free and open to the public. Please join us!
