Strawberry Shortcake Festival

The Whale in West Asheville is celebrating peak strawberry season with a day full of desserts, vendors, music, games, and community competition at Strawberry Shortcake Fest on Sunday, May 24, beginning at 1 PM.

The event will feature “The Great Whale Bake Off,” where local bakers, restaurants, and creators will compete for the title of best strawberry shortcake. Attendees can purchase a $10 tasting ticket to sample the competing shortcakes and cast their vote for their favorite creation. Voting closes promptly at 3:30 PM, when judges’ ballots will be counted, and winners announced at 4 PM!

Participating shortcake competitors currently include Carmel’s Kitchen & Bar, Bailey Street BBQ, Flour, Crumbs of Anarchy, Uncle Bacon’s Salt Co., and The Whale.

In addition to the bake off, Strawberry Shortcake Fest will feature strawberry-themed music curated by The Dusty Crate Collective, a selection of strawberry craft beers, local vendors, strawberry crafts, and games.

The event is free to attend, with tasting tickets available for purchase online and at the event while supplies last.
