In this hands-on watercolor workshop, you'll learn how to see beyond color and recognize the values that create form, distance, and mood. Through guided demonstrations and individual instruction, we'll explore how light and dark work together to bring landscapes to life.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced watercolor artist, this class will strengthen your understanding of value and help you create paintings with greater confidence and impact.

You'll Learn:

How to identify the five basic value ranges (tea, coffee, milk, cream, butter)

Creating depth and distance through value

Simplifying complex scenes into strong value patterns

Using value to capture light, atmosphere, and focus

Techniques for building luminous watercolor paintings

Students should bring:

Paint (tubes preferred) : Yellow cool ( Lemon or cadmium light) Yellow warm (Cadmium Yellow) Red warm ( Cadmium light red) Red cool (Alizarin Chrimson) Blue cool (Cobalt) Blue warm (Ultramarine) Phthalo Blue and/or Viridian Dark Brown- Burnt/Raw Umber, Van Dyke, Sepia

Palette - White ceramic, hard plastic or a piece of glass with white paper works

Paper - 140 lbs white cold press watercolor paper - loose or on a block

Pencil and eraser that does not leave smudge, color or marks behind

1”Flat and medium round brush at minimum. An additional ¼ to ½” flat and small detail round brush are helpful but not required. 

Two water containers; Spray water (cheap hairspray bottles work great)

Paper towels- Viva Brand Cloth Like is the best!

Artist tape or painters tape if you would like clean edges around your painting. 

A board to mount loose paper to.
