PostDiluvian Opening Reception: The Work of Chrys Corn Goodman + Maryana Rivera

TWO LOCAL ARTISTS REFLECT ON THEIR WORK SINCE THE FLOOD
POSTDILUVIAN EXHIBITION SHOWCASES THE WORK OF CHRYS CORN GOODMAN AND MARYANA RIVERATwo Asheville artists, Chrys Corn Goodman and Maryana Rivera, have been honored with an invitation to exhibit images of the work that they have created since Hurricane Helene devastated the River Arts District two years ago. The exhibition, titled PostDiluvian, will be at Pink Dog Gallery at 348 Depot Street in Asheville, with an opening reception on Friday, September 25 from 5-8pm to commemorate the two-year anniversary of the hurricane and flood that took place in September 2024. Both artists were represented in the River Arts District when the flood happened, and both will be in attendance at the opening. PostDiluvian, will remain on exhibit from September 25 through October 25. Goodman is a figurative abstract painter working in oil and wax, and Rivera is a relief printmaker. The show will focus on themes of restoration, hope, brokenness and resilience and the way that art helps us process the beauty and struggles of life.

Chrys Corn Goodman grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area where she studied under Corban LePell and graduated with a BA in Fine Art, cum laude. Through his mentorship, her affinity for realism morphed into a love of figurative abstraction and responding to the work as it evolves, regularly incorporating words or lyrics which so often suggest the meaning behind each piece. Whether primarily oil or encaustic, her work includes a balance of drawing, painting, writing, embedded found objects and gold leaf, and combines both representational and abstract elements. She takes inspiration from music, poetry, and contemplating memories and emotional and spiritual truths. Today, she has returned to the Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville, North Carolina, where her family originated. Her studio is located in the River Arts District at 362 Depot Street Studios, Asheville.

Maryana Rivera is a relief printmaker from Atlanta GA. She enjoys a number of mediums, but relief printing suits her the best. She enjoys its meditative, unforgiving, satisfying, and occasionally infuriating nature. Her studio can be found in the River Arts District’s RAD Rendezvous, 87 Roberts Street, Asheville.
