    Join Otterpine and Character Study for a cozy, introvert-friendly evening of books, quiet reading, and good company.

    Otterpine and Character Study Reading Parties are now happening twice a month, on the second and fourth Mondays. Save the dates:

    And now, we’re adding a BOOK SWAP to every Reading Party! 📚🔄⁠

    Bring any number of books you’re ready to pass along and take home the same number of books from the swap. It’s a simple way to share books, discover something new, and send a few favorites on to their next reader.

    The book swap will be part of every Reading Party going forward.

    Join us for a cozy, introvert-friendly evening of books, quiet reading, and good company. Come alone or with a friend. There’s no assigned reading, no homework, and no pressure to socialize.

    All evenings will follow the same relaxed format, but keep an eye out for little surprises celebrating Asheville’s literary and local community, from book raffles and neighborhood gift cards to cute merch, drink tickets, and other treats.

    How the evening goes:

    🕠 5:30 PM: Arrive, browse the shelves, grab a drink, and settle in.
    📚 6–7 PM: Read, listen, or work on a quiet craft for one uninterrupted hour.
    💬 7 PM onward: Keep reading, talk with fellow readers, swap recommendations, or head home. Whatever feels right.

    What to bring:

    • A book, e-reader, magazine, or audiobook
    • 1–2 books for the book swap, if you’d like to participate
    • Headphones if you’re listening
    • A quiet craft, such as knitting, embroidery, or sketching
    • Maybe a book-loving friend

    Need something to read? Every Bagatelle book on Character Study’s shelves is $8.

    Registration isn’t required, but it helps us plan and allows us to send you a reminder with anything special in store. The bar will always remain open to the public and seating is first come, first served.

    Come for an hour of quiet. Stay for the books, drinks, and good company.
