Meet at the Asheville Botanical Garden Visitor's Center (Indoor class)

Join native plant grower and landscape designer Emily Driskill to learn more about native groundcovers. We will cover what a groundcover is and what functions they ideally fulfill, some of which may challenge your current assumptions. We will follow that by looking through a list of native species that fit the bill including photos and further horticultural information for each. Many commonly planted groundcovers are exotic or even invasive species; native alternatives for these will be offered up!

Emily Driskill is an alumna of The Evergreen State College where she earned a B.A./B.S. with concentrations in Botany and Sustainable Agriculture. Through seasons of botany fieldwork in the Pacific northwest, western Rockies, southern Appalachians, and mid-Atlantic coastal plain, and then years of commercial growing and native landscape design work, she has gained a loving familiarity with native plants and their places in the ecosystem. Emily has been a horticulture professional since 2016 and is founder and head grower of Tanager Plants, a wholesale native plant nursery in Mars Hill.
