  • Come explore the fierce, compassionate energy of Durga—the warrior and mother goddess who embodies strength, protection, courage, and clear vision.

In this special Myth & Mantra practice, we’ll enter Durga’s story through asana, mantra, breath and meditation, exploring what it means to cultivate a strength that is both powerful and deeply compassionate.

We’ll begin with an embodied yoga practice designed to awaken steadiness, resilience, and inner fire. From there, we’ll explore Durga’s origin myth and learn a traditional Gayatri mantra associated with her. Through ajapa japa, a fully embodied form of mantra meditation, we’ll experience mantra not simply as something we repeat, but as a vibration that can move through the body and become part of our breath and awareness.

The Sanskrit word japa means repeating or softly reciting a prayer or mantra. Ajapa japa is sometimes described as “japa without effort”—allowing the mantra to arise naturally, carried by the rhythm of the breath rather than forced by the mind.

Durga is both warrior and mother—a fierce protector whose strength is rooted in compassion. Her mythology offers a powerful invitation to consider: Do we feel protected? Where can we stand fully in ourselves? Where might we need more courage, clarity, or trust in our own strength?

No previous experience with mantra or meditation is necessary. We’ll learn the mantra together, review pronunciation, and printed versions will be provided so you can participate with ease.

All are welcome! Come as you are!
