Misty Mountains in Watercolor

  • Participants will paint layers of transparent color to create a mountain range with a sense of depth and distance. Soft mist will be added sweeping across the landscape using a subtractive technique—removing pigment with an absorbent paper towel to reveal atmospheric highlights and movement.

    Students should bring:

    • Paint : Tubes are best Yellow cool ( Lemon or cadmium light) Yellow warm (Cadmium Yellow) Red warm ( Cadmium light red) Red cool (Alizarin Chrimson) Blue cool (Cobalt) Blue warm (Ultramarine) Phthalo Blue and/or Viridian Dark Brown- Burnt/Raw Umber,Van Dyke, Sepia
    • Palette - White ceramic, hard plastic or a piece of glass with white paper works 
    • Paper - 140 lbs white cold press watercolor paper - loose or on a block 
    • Pencil and eraser that does not leave smudge, color or marks behind 
    • 1”Flat and medium round brush at minimum. An additional ¼ to ½” flat and small detail round brush are helpful but not required. A large Wash brush if you have it.
    • Water container (1 or 2) 
    • Spray water (cheap hairspray bottles work great) 
    • Papertowels- Viva Brand is the best! 
    • Artist Tape or painters tape if you would like clean edges around your painting. 
    • A board to mount loose paper.
