Intro to Machine Sewing

Aug 20, 2026
5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
  • Learn the fundamentals of the sewing machine — and walk away with a finished project. In this hands-on workshop, you'll cover machine basics, safety, standard stitches, and practical tips as you sew your very own drawstring bag. From winding the bobbin to threading the machine to sewing with a seam allowance, you'll build a solid foundation that can take your sewing wherever you want to go.

What's Provided All materials are provided, including fabric and use of a sewing machine if needed. You're also welcome to bring your own fabric if you have something you'd like to use. If you own a sewing machine, we strongly encourage you to bring it — we'd love to help you learn the ins and outs of your specific machine. Machine availability in the workshop is limited, so please note in your registration whether you have a machine and, if so, the make and model OR if you will need to use one from the Tool Library.

Take home a finished drawstring bag and your very own Intro to Sewing Zine featuring machine anatomy and project instructions.

What to Wear / Safety Notes No special attire required. Be mindful of needles and pins and respectful of safety notes during class.

Skill Level: Beginner — no experience necessary.
