  • "Inner Worlds" is an intimate glimpse into artist Janice Geller's inner life of vivid dreams, inner figures, imaginary portals, hidden recesses of the body and the sumptuous allure of nature. Janice's artwork started as a way to process her inner world - a way to make conscious what was hiding in the recesses of her unconscious, the dark shadow parts as well as her true nature. The images range from whimsical and playful, calm and meditative to expressions of conflicting emotions, weaving between reality, imaginary worlds and abstraction. At the opening reception there will be mini performances inspired by the paintings.

Drawing on her background as an educator, writer, dancer and psychotherapist, Ms. Geller’s images are stimulated by what matters to her in the outer world, topics of relationship, cultural differences, climate change, animal extinction, the inner body, and the spiritual realm. The paintings juxtapose people from different cultures, religious backgrounds, mythologies and races interacting with each other and spiritual beings, surfacing from the personal experience of traveling, teaching and working with diverse populations of people.

Janice Geller was born in New York City and currently exhibits her work at 375 Depot Street, in the River Arts District of Asheville, NC. She enjoys exploring various mediums including acrylics, oils, watercolors, watercolor inks, watercolor pencils, oil pastels and collage elements. Her intention as an artist is to invite the viewer to be curious, to move into a space of their own imagination, perhaps find new perspectives and speculate about what the artwork inspires in them.
