From Skill to Structure - Building a Business That's Ready for Opportunity
You have the talent. You have the idea. But turning that skill into a sustainable business or nonprofit requires more than passion - it requires structure.
Hosted by the Black Business Alliance, this workshop is designed for business owners, emerging entrepreneurs and nonprofit founders who are ready to move from informal hustle to intentional organization.
Participants will learn the foundational elements needed to properly establish and structure their entities so they can operate legally, confidently and strategically, building efficacy, sustainability and resilience in their businesses.
We’ll break down entity formation, governance basics, financial and operational setup, and compliance essentials - without the jargon. You’ll also gain clarity around common pain points such as decision paralysis, fear of “doing it wrong,” limited resources and confusion about roles within the business structure, responsibilities, "how" to do business and next steps.
Our Panelists:
- Marcus Kirkman, Business Inclusion Manager with the City of Asheville
- Keynon Lake, Founder of My Daddy Taught Me That
- Lucious Wilson, Catalyst Program Director at Mountain BizWorks
Best for: Founders who want clarity, order and a step-by-step understanding of what “being legit” really means.
Refreshments will be provided by Mehfil Indian Cuisine (Curry Chicken, Samosa and Pani Puri.)
