  • Every Friday night as twilight descends on Asheville, the rhythmic beat of drums can be heard pulsing through the streets, marching out of Pritchard Park.

This is where people from all walks of life gather—not just to play the drums but to feel the powerful synchronicity, to dance, or to simply bask in the spectacle of individuality and community vibrancy.

The Drum Circle, a beloved tradition since 2001, begins as the sun sets, usually around 6 p.m. This free event draws hundreds, creating a harmony of music and community that lasts until about 9:45 p.m. The scene screams inclusivity; anyone can bring a drum and join the circle. Beats echo from the central brick courtyard and creep up concrete steps to enchant and enrapture the crowd of avid listeners.

    For Those Joining the Circle

Extra drums are sometimes available, but there's no guarantee.

All are welcome. But please, super pretty please, if you are a new drummer, or new to drumming with others, don't bring a loud instrument. In order to all drum together, we need to listen to each other. We need to play at the same tempo and in the same time signature.

Please don't bring drum set drums, marching drums, loud obnoxious drums, loud metal things to bang on, etc., especially if you are not used to playing in a hand drum ensemble or with others. You will get the hairy eyeball and a talking to. Thank you. This is a hand drum circle.

Seating available. Come dance, drum, be a freak, or just stare.
