Winter Theater

You can see Stacy Keach starring on stage in a production that examines issues of freedom of the press, Shakespeare's classic Julius Ceasar or, on the lighter side, see a wonderful light comedy like The Great American Trailer Park Musical.

Top Secret: The Battle For The Pentagon Papers

This LA Theatre Works production begs the question: In a democratic society, should a government be allowed to protect secrets in the name of national security if those secrets are used to cover up politically damaging actions taken by that government? This riveting production provides an inside look at The Washington Post's 1971 decision to publish the top secret study, The Pentagon Papers, documenting U.S. involvement in Vietnam. The subsequent trial tested the parameters of the First Amendment, and the epic legal battle between the government and the press went to the nation's highest court - arguably the most important Supreme Court case ever on freedom of the press.

Would You Like Yoga With That? presented by LYLAS

Would You Like Yoga With That? is the fourth original production written and performed by LYLAS. Featuring all new material, Would You Like Yoga With That? is an original sketch comedy show in the style of Saturday Night Live. Though LYLAS pokes fun at all things Asheville and beyond, their humor is never mean-spirited. The show is infused with musical numbers and game shows, cameo appearances from recurring characters, and more pop culture references than a Trivial Pursuit game. Written, directed, and performed by women, but without any pesky political or social messages, LYLAS is just plain funny. LYLAS has consistently sold out performances for all of their past shows, recently opened for Henry Cho at The Orange Peel, and frequently has standing room only crowds. LYLAS (an acronym which stands for Love Ya Like A Sis and is commonly found scrawled in yearbooks or texted between phones) is a collaboration between seven Asheville women. LYLAS regulars Karri Brantley, Jenny Bunn, Sarah Carpenter, Emily Miller and Betsy Puckett return to the stage in this production and newcomers Robin Raines and Marissa Williams make their LYLAS debuts.

Joseph Heller's Catch 22

Aquila Theatre Companys dynamic, timely and hilarious new production of Joseph Hellers own stage adaptation of his classic novel explores the enduring questions of the absurdity of war and its impact on society. A World War II bomber pilot, Joseph Heller considered CATCH-22 to be a modern day Iliad, with its anti-hero Yossarian as a new Achilles. With this in mind, Aquila approaches Hellers work with an eagerness to explore the themes of the insanity of war in theatrical form. The highly allegorical and wonderfully surreal text of this great modern novel provides an excellent dramatic vehicle for raising these issues at this opportune time.
