What is Geocaching? | Top Geocaches in Asheville | Q & A With Geocaching Expert "OzGuff"
The Ultimate AsheCache is a geocaching adventure unlike any other, set amongst the vibrant, scenic Asheville area. This is a very modern treasure hunt, so instead of a compass, you’ll need a GPS unit. And since half the fun is the actual hunt, we wouldn’t dream of simply giving you the coordinates for the final cache. You’ve got to work for these incredible treasures from local organizations.
So, May 20 to June 23, stay overnight in Asheville, strap on comfortable shoes, get the clues and start hunting! And while you’re out, make sure to check out all of the great shops, restaurants and attractions along the way.
AsheCache Rules
- In order to get cache coordinate clues, including clues to the final coordinates, you must stay overnight at one of the ten area accommodations.
- You assume all risks involved when seeking these caches.
- The treasure cache will be replenished once a week on Tuesday by noon. The cache could be found on the first day, so keep that in mind while searching. You must be the first to find the cache to get the treasure.
- In order to find the correct digits for the final cache, you must visit SIX locations to discover the correct answers to the questions given to you. The answers can be found on plaques, in addresses, on buildings, walls, fences and other structures.
Hints for Success
- Think Tuesday: Caches will be replenished on each Tuesday of the promotion (May 20 and 27; June 3, 10, 17) by noon. If you are determined to be the first to find the cache to get the prize, think about coming to town on a Monday or Tuesday.
- Wear comfortable shoes: This program will take you to numerous parts of the area to find clues. Expect to drive to all the clue locations and then walk around a bit.
- Double check your answers to the clues: If you’re off by one number, you won’t be able to find the final cache. Make sure to double check the answers and use the CHECKSUM on the sheet you’re given at the accommodation.
