A: Herbs grow fine in containers. Remember the 5 basic rules:
- 97% of the common herbs need full sun. That 6 hours of direct
sunlight. - Herbs like moisture but they don't like wet feet. All herbs need a
well drained growing medium. Test the potting soil you plan to use by putting
some in an empty pot and filling it with water. The idea potting soil
allow the excess water to drain through. If the water sits on top and
slowly drains through, the potting soil is too dense for herbs. - Plants have the same amount of root size as top growth. Find out the
mature size of the herb you plan to grow and select a pot that will have
enough room for good root growth. - The larger the leaf size, the more water it will need. In making
combination pots be sure to put similar leaf sized herbs together. - Use fertilizers sparingly. To much fertilizer makes fleshy top growth
but reduces the flavor of the herb. Organic fertilizers are a perfect
choice for herbs.
