Confirmed 2009 TEDxAsheville speakers include: -bell hooks, American author, feminist and social activist -Dee Eggers, renowned UNC Asheville professor of environmental studies -Drew Jones of the Sustainability Institute, creator of interactive climate simulations -David McConville of the Elumenati, multimedia artist, businessman, inventor, media advocate, community activist, and futuristic thinker -Caroline Yongue, Buddhist minister and director of Asheville’s Center for End-of-Life Transitions TEDxAsheville 2009 also includes performances by local artisans – and more than a few surprises. Daniel Crabtree of Unifire Theater and Josh Batenhorst of ArtSpace charter school split emcee duties in a 4-hour marathon event. ABOUT TEDx In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED created a program it calls TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxAsheville, where “x” = an independently organized TED event. At TEDxAsheville, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection within the audience. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. TEDxAsheville is a operated under license from TED. It is not being organized by the TED Conferences, and is an independently organized TED event.
