Gilbert and Sullivan Revue
Whether it’s poking fun at the grand opera or using satire to get at people in authority, William Gilbert and the composer Arthur Sullivan were experts in light (comic) opera during the Victorian era. On February 7th and 8th, Temple Beth HaTephila will present performances of some of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular works. The area’s leading baritone, Timothy Wilds, soloist of opera and art song, Simone Vigilante, expressive vocalist Karen Svites, and multi-talented vocalist and concert musician, Vance Reese, will entertain the audience with a variety of excerpts from some of the most popular operettas including Pirates of Penzance, The Mikado, The Gondoliers, and H.M.S. Pinafore. The entire community is invited to this unique opportunity to hear and learn more about light opera, as well as to participate with these talented performers. It will be an evening, or afternoon of fun, whichever performance you choose The Saturday February 7th, 8:00 PM evening will include a silent auction at which wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. You can preview the auction items beginning at 6:30 PM. The Sunday 3:00 PM show will be the performance only.
